Is your child teething?

We understand that it can be quiet difficult for parents to see their children in any sort of pain, especially when they’re so young. Teething is a natural process that starts to happen to children at around 6 months of age. The typical signs of teething are as followed:

  • Drooling
  • Having an urge to put all objects in their mouth
  • Disturbed sleep
  • Flushed cheeks
  • Swollen gums

What can you do to help them?

  • Teething rings are a safe object for your baby to chew on. Some rings can be cooled in the fridge beforehand which can help the gums more by soothing them.
  • Teething gels can only be used for babies over 4 months old. Often these gels contain a mild local anaesthetic which will help numb the pain and discomfort. Some even contain antiseptic ingredients that help to prevent infection from the sore broken skin in your baby’s mouth.
  • Give them something healthy to chew on–fruit and vegetables are ideal, as they’re soft and less damaging to the skin.
  • Having cool sugar-free drinks they will help to soothe the gums and can help with excessive dribbling.
  • Rubbing the gum with your finger (making sure it’s clean beforehand) or a wet gauze pad, again this will help to ease the pain and help soreness.
