What counts as a dental emergency?

You don’t need to be “sure”. If something feels wrong, we’ll guide you.

• Severe toothache that’s worsening or stopping sleep
• Dental abscess or infection — gum boil, bad taste, pressure, or heat
• Facial, jaw, or gum swelling (especially if spreading)
• Broken or cracked teeth with pain or sharp edges
• Dental trauma (knocked, moved, or loose teeth)
• Bleeding that won’t settle

If you have breathing or swallowing difficulty, severe facial swelling, or feel seriously unwell, seek urgent medical help immediately.

How same-day emergency care works

1. Quick triage — a few focused questions so we understand urgency.
2. Assessment — we examine and take any required checks to identify the cause.
3. Diagnosis first — we explain what’s going on in plain English.
4. Relief and stabilisation — numbing, smoothing, temporary protection, drainage where needed, or stabilising a tooth.
5. Options explained — what can be done today vs later.
6. You decide — nothing proceeds without your agreement.

Infection support (when appropriate): If there are signs of a spreading infection or dental abscess, antibiotics may be prescribed only when clinically indicated. We’ll explain whether they’re needed — and discuss the right treatment to fix the cause, not just the symptoms.
