Home Visit Dentist in Cardiff: What to Expect
Not everyone can get to a dental surgery, and that shouldn’t mean going without care. A home visit dentist brings a fully-equipped, portable surgery to your own home in Cardiff, so treatment happens somewhere familiar and at your own pace.
This guide is published by The Dentist, Great Barr, Dr Rikki Dhody’s practice in Birmingham. In Cardiff and the wider South Wales area, home visits are carried out through our sister service, Bedside Dental.
Who benefits from a home visit
Home visits are most often used by:
- Elderly or frail patients
- People who are housebound or bedbound
- Patients with a disability or limited mobility
- People living with dementia
- Patients with dental anxiety or phobia
- Care home residents
- Hospital in-patients
What a home visit in Cardiff can cover
With a portable surgery, a dentist and nurse can usually manage:
- Check-ups and oral health reviews
- Fillings
- Denture repairs, relines, adjustments and new dentures
- Extractions, where suitable
- Assessing urgent pain, swelling or broken teeth
- Hygiene and scale-and-polish appointments
Anything needing an X-ray, or more involved treatment like root canals or crowns, usually needs a clinic visit — your dentist will explain this plainly and help you plan the next step if it applies.
Care homes across Cardiff
Care homes can book visiting rounds so multiple residents are seen together, with documentation and staff training available to support day-to-day oral health routines. Hospital in-patients can also be seen at the bedside where needed.
Pricing
A home visit starts from £350, including the dentist, nurse and a full consultation. A check-up on its own is £99. You’ll always be given a clear written quote before treatment goes ahead, with no obligation.
Regulation
Every visit is carried out by a GDC-registered dentist and nurse, both DBS-checked, and you’ll receive a written care plan afterwards. As Cardiff is in Wales, day-to-day care standards are overseen separately from the CQC framework used in England — ask your dentist for details of the specific regulatory arrangements in place if you’d like them confirmed in writing.
Questions patients ask
Is it NHS or private?
It’s a private home-visit service, often used by patients who’ve had a long NHS wait or can no longer travel to a surgery.
Do I need to arrange an X-ray first?
Not usually. Many issues can be assessed without one; where it’s genuinely needed, this is arranged as a separate step.
How do I get a price?
Share your Cardiff postcode and what you need, and you’ll get a written quote first, with no obligation to proceed.
