Home Visit Dentist in Newcastle: What to Expect

If getting to a dental practice in Newcastle upon Tyne has become difficult — because of age, mobility, illness or anxiety — a home visit dentist can bring the appointment to you instead. This guide explains who home visits are for, what can typically be done at home, and how to arrange one in Newcastle and the wider Tyne & Wear area.

We’re the team behind The Dentist, Great Barr in Birmingham, led by Dr Rikki Dhody. Our home-visit service outside the West Midlands is provided nationally through our sister service, Bedside Dental, which covers Newcastle as part of its Tyne & Wear area.

Who is a home visit for?

  • Elderly or frail patients who find travel tiring or difficult
  • Housebound or bedbound patients
  • People with a disability or mobility impairment
  • Patients living with dementia
  • Anyone with dental anxiety who finds a clinic setting overwhelming
  • Care home residents
  • Hospital in-patients needing bedside dental care

What can be done at a home visit in Newcastle?

A dentist and nurse travel with a portable surgery, so a good range of routine and urgent care can be provided in your own home or care home:

  • Dental check-ups and oral health assessments
  • Fillings
  • Denture fittings, repairs, relines and adjustments
  • Tooth extractions, where clinically appropriate
  • Urgent pain and swelling assessment
  • Hygiene and scale-and-polish visits

Some treatments — X-rays, root canal treatment, crowns and bridges, and more complex surgical work — need equipment that can’t safely travel, so these are usually referred on to a clinic. A home visit dentist will always explain clearly what can and can’t be done at home before starting.

Care homes and hospital wards in Newcastle

The same visiting model extends to care homes across Newcastle and Tyne & Wear, where several residents can often be seen on the same round, and to hospital bedsides for denture repairs, discharge planning and urgent relief for in-patients.

Pricing

Home visits through Bedside Dental start from £350, which includes the dentist, nurse and a full consultation. A check-up alone is £99. Any further treatment is always quoted clearly, in writing, before it goes ahead — there’s no obligation to proceed.

Who provides it, and is it regulated?

Every visit is carried out by a GDC-registered dentist and nurse who are DBS-checked, and the service is CQC regulated. You’ll always receive a written care plan after the visit.

Frequently asked questions

Is this an NHS service?
No — it’s a private home-visit service. Many patients come to it after a long NHS wait, or because they can no longer get to a surgery at all.

Do you need X-rays before every visit?
No. Many problems can be assessed and treated without one. Where an X-ray is genuinely needed, this is arranged separately.

How do I get a price?
Share your Newcastle postcode and what you need, and you’ll get a clear written quote first, with no obligation to book.
