OPG scans (panoramic dental X-rays)
Need an OPG scan to send to your own dentist — in the UK or abroad (including Turkey)? Book through our imaging hub and we’ll help you get the scan you need, without pressure to treat.
Scan-only is welcome. Many patients simply need the image file to forward on to their dentist.

If you’re in pain and need treatment (not just an X-ray), see urgent & emergency care.
Common reasons for an OPG
A panoramic X-ray showing teeth, jaws and supporting bone — often requested before:
- Implants and surgical planning
- Wisdom teeth assessments
- Unexplained pain, infections or swelling
- Treatment planning abroad (including Turkey)
If you’re unsure what your dentist needs, you can still book — tell us what you’ve been asked for.
What you’ll receive
- Clear OPG image captured on the day
- A digital copy suitable to forward to your dentist
- Helpful guidance if you’re unsure which scan is required
Why people book an OPG scan
Fast, clear imaging — ideal when you need a panoramic X-ray to share with a dentist elsewhere.
To send to a dentist abroad
A common reason is overseas treatment planning (including Turkey). You can book the scan and forward the file to your dentist.
Implant or surgery planning
An OPG can provide a clear overview of teeth and jaw structures before implant discussions or surgical assessments.
Wisdom teeth / pain / infections
For suspected wisdom tooth issues, recurring infections, or unexplained symptoms where a broad overview helps.
You want “scan-only”
No problem. If you simply need the image, you can book directly via the imaging hub — no pressure to proceed with treatment.
“I just needed the scan file to send on — it was straightforward and quick.”
How to book your OPG scan
Most patients do one of these two things — both are fine.
If you’re unsure whether you need an OPG or a different scan, book anyway and explain what your dentist asked for. Prefer to talk first? Call 01922 624900.

Ask your dentist to refer you

In pain and need treatment?
If you need care for toothache, swelling, broken teeth or urgent issues, use our urgent & emergency pathway instead of scan-only.
Not sure what scan you need?
Send a message with what your dentist asked for (even a screenshot). We’ll point you to the right booking route.
Common questions about OPG scans
Quick answers — and if you’re unsure, call or message us.
What is an OPG scan?
An OPG (panoramic dental X-ray) shows your teeth, jaws and surrounding bone in one wide image. It’s commonly used for general assessment, wisdom teeth and early planning.
Can I book just for the scan to send to my own dentist?
Yes — scan-only is welcome. Many patients book an OPG specifically to forward the file to their dentist (including dentists abroad such as in Turkey). Use the imaging hub to book: birmingham-cbct-opg-hub.co.uk.
Does my dentist need to refer me?
Not always. You can book directly, or your dentist can refer you — both routes are available via the imaging hub: birmingham-cbct-opg-hub.co.uk.
How do I receive the scan?
You’ll receive a digital copy suitable to forward to your dentist. If you have any specific instructions from your dentist, share them at booking or by message.
What if I actually need treatment for pain?
If you’re in pain or have swelling, it’s usually better to use the clinical pathway. See urgent & emergency care or call 01922 624900.
