Oral Hygiene

Oral hygiene
For healthy teeth and gums, regular brushing and good oral hygiene are a must. Doing this thoroughly helps to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. Good oral hygiene means:
- The teeth are clean and free of debris
- The gums are pink and don't hurt or bleed when brushing or cleaning between the teeth
- Bad breath is not a constant problem
Other things can also help, such as using a fluoride mouthwash at a different time from brushing, cleaning your tongue, and eating a healthy diet that limits sugary foods and drinks.
Good oral hygiene helps prevent problems such as:
- Dental plaque: a soft, whitish deposit that forms on the surface of the teeth when bacteria combine with food and saliva. Plaque contains many types of bacteria.
- Tartar (calculus): hardened, calcified plaque that sticks firmly to the teeth. It can usually only be removed with special instruments by a dentist or dental hygienist.
What good oral hygiene involves
- Brushing: brush twice a day, last thing at night and at one other time, for about two minutes, covering all areas. Use a fluoride toothpaste and a soft- to medium-bristled brush or an electric toothbrush. Spit out after brushing but don't rinse, so the fluoride keeps working. Change your toothbrush or brush head every 3 months.
- Cleaning between teeth: clean between your teeth once a day to remove plaque your brush can't reach. Floss is commonly used, but interdental brushes often do a better job.
- Food and drink: sugary foods and drinks cause tooth decay, and acidic foods and drinks cause tooth erosion. Limit how much and how often you have them, and wait about an hour after eating or drinking anything acidic before brushing.
If you have a lot of plaque or tartar, or any gum disease, visiting a hygienist is a must. They will clean your teeth thoroughly and show you how to clean between your teeth and brush properly.

Very good experience - I have waited approximately 6 months before reviewing their service.
I called the Dentist at the practice on Boxing Day in December 2023. I was extremely nervous about attending their practice due to a poor service I received at a different dentist on the Yew Tree, West Bromwich.
I was asked to attend their surgery as they suspected I needed a root canal procedure.
The Dentist put my mind at ease and agreed to inform me fully of the procedure. He had full faith in his ability to deliver a service with no pain to be experienced whatsoever.
I did not believe him but I knew I needed the surgery.
He proved me wrong and I had the best experience at a Dentist surgery ever.
I experienced no pain and no discomfort at all. This was a massive relief for me.
The procedure was expensive however it was what I expected due to the Christmas holidays and also having neglected my dental hygiene for years and not having seen a Dentist regularly.
They had me attend approximately 5-6 times over 2-3 months in order to finish the procedure properly with a crown and fitting.
The staff are friendly and very well trained.
I am extremely grateful for their service and I recommend them to all friends and family.
God Bless you all and good luck for the future.

I've been going to this dentist for almost a year now initially it was just to clean my teeth and do regular check ups and I was really happy with how kind everyone was and the quality of the treatments. After a while I wanted to do teeth whitening but didn't know anything about it or the process. I had a consultation with them and they ran through the treatment, cost and everything I needed to know. After a few weeks of using the gels my teeth were considerably whiter and I was receiving compliments from my family and friends on my smile. After a while they suggested I consider veneers for two pegs on the top of my teeth, they also do a monthly instalment and after a few weeks considering it I decided to do it and was very happy with the results. It looks very natural and matches my teeth perfectly and made me a lot more confident with my smile and was getting compliments from a lot of people shortly after getting it done. Would definitely recommend coming here everyone is very welcoming, friendly and professional and I've never had any complaints with any of the treatments

Fantastic dentist Rikki and the team are so patient with me as an extremely nervous patient. I initially visited 2 years ago for a tooth extraction. After being in some discomfort a few weeks ago I visited again. I am now part way through my treatment having had 1 crown fitted and an initial clean. I am booked in for another crown and clean. Although I am still nervous I am getting better. Thank you Rikki and team for helping me overcome my fears.
