When a composite filling is the right option
A composite filling (often called a white filling) rebuilds the tooth with a tooth-coloured resin. It’s commonly used for small-to-medium cavities, worn edges, and chips — especially where you want a natural look.
Common reasons patients book
- Toothache or sensitivity when eating/drinking (we’ll check if it’s decay, cracks, or a nerve issue)
- A filling has fallen out or the tooth feels sharp
- A chipped tooth (front or back)
- Old filling replacement because it looks dark, leaks, or keeps trapping food

A calm, step-by-step appointment
We keep it simple: clear diagnosis, clear options, and you decide. No pressure to proceed.
- Assess & explain — we show you what’s going on and what your options are.
- Numb gently (if needed) — we only continue when you’re comfortable.
- Remove decay / clean the area — carefully and conservatively.
- Build the tooth in layers — colour-matched composite, shaped for function and appearance.
- Check the bite — we make sure it feels right before you leave.
For cosmetic edge repairs (not decay), you may also want composite bonding.
Aftercare: what to expect
Most patients get straight back to normal quickly. If we used anaesthetic, avoid biting your cheek or lip while numb.
Normal (and usually short-lived)
- Mild cold sensitivity
- A “new” feeling when biting for a day or two
- Slight tenderness if the cavity was deep

- Swelling, a bad taste, or signs of infection

How much are composite fillings?

Frequently asked questions
Is a composite filling the same as a white filling?
Yes. “White filling” usually means a composite resin filling that’s colour-matched to your tooth.
My filling fell out — is it an emergency?
It needs checking soon because the tooth can become sensitive or break further. If you have pain, swelling, or you can’t bite, use urgent & emergency care or call 01922 624900.
Will it hurt?
We aim to keep everything comfortable. We numb gently when needed, work at your pace, and you can pause or stop at any time.
How long do composite fillings last?
It depends on size, tooth position, biting forces, and habits. With good care and regular check-ups, they can last many years.
Do you offer finance?
