What is dental floss?

Dental floss is a thin, soft thread made of nylon or plastic. There are different types of dental floss out there, it’s finding out what is right for you.

Why should you floss?

Dental floss gets rid of plaque and small food particles which can become lodged between the gaps in your teeth.

Flossing can also prevent gum disease.

A high buildup of plaque can cause gum inflammation and irritation.

Flossing techniques

Step 1- Break off a piece of floss around 18 inches long.

Step 2 – Wrap the majority of the floss around the middle or index finger on one hand, whichever you prefer and a small amount around the middle or index finger of your other hand.

Step 3- Gently guide the floss up and down against the side of your teeth and below the gum line. When you reach the gum line curve the floss into a C shape until you feel resistance.

Step 4- Floss between every tooth, front and back. Don’t miss out any.
