We remove fixed braces for patients whoever fitted them: brackets and wires off, every trace of glue cleaned away and your teeth polished, with a follow-up visit included to make sure nothing is left behind.

Need Your Braces Taken Off?
You don't need to have started treatment with us, and you don't need a referral. These are the situations we see most often:
Fitted abroad
Your braces were put on during treatment overseas and travelling back to have them removed isn't practical.
Orthodontist closed or moved
The practice that fitted your braces has shut, relocated or can no longer see you.
You've moved house
You've relocated to Birmingham or the West Midlands and your treating clinic is now too far away.
Treatment has finished
Your teeth are where they should be and you simply need the brackets, wires and glue removed.
You want them off
You've decided to stop treatment early. We'll explain the pros and cons honestly before anything comes off.
Broken or loose brackets
Brackets have come unstuck or wires are digging in, and you'd rather have the whole appliance removed.
What's Involved
Check-up of teeth and gums
Before anything is removed, the dentist examines your teeth and gums. Braces make cleaning harder, so we look for early decay, white chalky marks around the brackets and inflamed gums, and tell you what we find.
Brackets and wires off
The wires are cut and taken out, then each bracket is gently released from the tooth with purpose-made instruments. You'll feel pressure and hear a click, but it shouldn't hurt.
Adhesive removal and polish
The bonding glue left on each tooth is carefully cleaned away and the surface polished, taking care to remove only the adhesive and not your enamel.
Second visit — the final clean
A short follow-up appointment lets us look again once your gums have settled, remove any last traces of glue that were hidden at the gum line, and polish again. It's included in the price.
Why two stages?
Straight after braces come off, gums around the brackets are often a little puffy and can hide small patches of adhesive right at the edge of the tooth. Leftover glue feels rough, picks up stain and traps plaque.
Seeing you again once the gums have calmed down means we can find and remove every trace, so you're left with clean, smooth teeth rather than a surprise rough spot a few weeks later.

Retainers After Braces Removal
Teeth have a natural tendency to drift back towards where they started, particularly in the months after braces come off. A retainer holds them in their new position while the bone and gum around them settle — and, for most people, it's needed long term.
If your previous provider has already given you retainers, bring them with you and we'll check they still fit. If not, we can make them for you:

Braces Removal FAQs
Does having braces removed hurt?
Most people find it uncomfortable rather than painful. You'll feel firm pressure as each bracket is released and some vibration while the glue is polished off. Teeth can feel a little tender for a day or two afterwards, especially if they were recently adjusted.
How long does it take?
It depends on how many teeth have brackets and how much adhesive there is. We'll give you an idea of timings when you book. The second visit is shorter, as it's a final check and clean.
Can you remove braces that someone else fitted?
Yes — that's who this service is for. It doesn't matter whether they were fitted in the UK or abroad. If you have any paperwork from your treatment, bring it along, but it isn't essential. If your treatment isn't finished, we'll talk through what stopping now means for your result before we go ahead.
What if my teeth have moved or aren't straight?
The dentist will look at how your teeth sit before and after removal and be honest about what we see. If they've shifted, options range from a retainer to hold them where they are now, to further straightening with braces or clear aligners. There's no obligation to go ahead with anything.
Will my teeth look different once the braces are off?
Some people notice slight staining or white marks where the brackets sat. We'll point out anything we see, and a clean with our hygienist or AIRFLOW stain removal can help freshen things up.
